The volunteer service project of “Reading with Rural Migrant Children” is a service project officially launched by the Guanlan Scholarship Foundations’ partner organization in China, the Shaanxi Renai Children’s Aid Center, in March 2013. A public welfare project caring for the growth and education of rural migrant children, the project provides community support space for rural migrant children aged 6 to 15 in urban villages and urban-rural border areas in Xi’an, caries out reading together, painting, and other interesting activities, book lending, academic counseling, children’s summer camps, as well as cultivating volunteer mothers, organizing college student volunteers, enterprises and professional volunteers. We feature the “Colorful Children’s Paintings” paintings on our Art Works Exhibit page where you can also purchase prints of the works to support the children. The activities engage the children to discover, think and solve problems, and promote healthy growth and social integration of migrant children.
Over the 10 years since, the number of rural children directly served has reached more than 30,000, and more than 18 university associations and 20 enterprises and more than 480 volunteers have participated in the service.
