The Guanlan Sisters are selected on the basis of family need by the local selection committee, consisting of scholarship alumni and our field manager, all of whom are from the village.
On receipt of the scholarship, the family head accepts in writing his daughter’s scholarship through high school graduation.
Before the end of each school year, each Guanlan Sister writes a letter to Dr. Seeberg about her progress and plans in school. Our local field manager sends a report, summary accounts, and photos of the Sisters and their families.
For the new and continuing Guanlan Sisters, Dr. Seeberg wires the collected amount to a designated account in a Xi’an, Shaanxi bank. Our field manager then takes the scholarship funds to the Guanlan Sisters’ schools in Shangluo Prefecture, where an award ceremony is held and the funds are given to the families.
The local field manager receives a minimal stipend for his generous and competent services. Only the wire transfer fee is deducted from the scholarship fund all other administrative costs are volunteered by the Seeberg family and friends.
We encourage you to establish a one-on-one relationship with one of the Guanlan Sisters to accompany her through her education.
We will help you exchange photos and translate letters. Simply let us know and we will match you up.
