Our Goals and Purpose
Guanlan Scholarship Foundation is committed to …
- Provide scholarships to village girls in remote China for K-12 schooling when their families can’t provide, so they may change their life prospects and flourish.
- Change a culture of restrictions on girls so they may complete an education which can contribute to their empowerment.
- Guarantee Scholarship recipients funds that cover at least half of the required school fees or post-compulsory school tuition.
- Work with our local partner NGO in conducting annual family visits to qualify new Scholarship recipients
- Curate information on the progress of the scholarship participants annually and produce reports of impact.
Our Mission in Action
Since 2000, the Foundation has provided scholarships for over 140 village girls in remote western China, where their opportunities and resources are extremely limited.
We provide scholarships to village girls for education, and break the cycle of absolute poverty. Therefore, they can pursue their dreams in safety, become independent, confident women who will flourish. They will raise the prospects of future generations and their community.
How It Works
The Foundation raises funds internationally and partners with a trusted local nonprofit for the grassroots work in Shaanxi. Each summer, our partner team visits the Anjinggou mountain village to meet with families, assess need, and register both new and continuing scholarship recipients, our Guanlan Sisters. Each fall, the scholarships are given to the Sisters at a community ceremony, where parents sign a pledge to support their daughters’ schooling. In return, the girls write to us annually, sharing their progress, challenges, and hopes for the future.
Our Commitment
The Foundation is run entirely by volunteers, so every dollar directly goes to the girls to cover school fees and tuition. Our founder, Dr. Seeberg, and Foundation team members regularly visit Shaanxi, while social media and local partners keep us connected with the Guanlan Sisters,
celebrating their achievements and encouraging their growth.”
